This is part 1 of a 3 part workshop series where we will use evidence-based learning strategies and mindfulness practices to help you settle and focus your mind, create an intentional approach to how you navigate text, and develop strategies for deep reading. During this first workshop, you will join Victoria Sheldon and Benjamin Pottruff, Learning Strategists from Academic Success, to discuss and practice strategies to increase confidence and reduce procrastination when reading. This is part 2 of a 3 part workshop series where we will use evidence-based learning strategies and mindfulness practices to help you settle and focus your mind, create an intentional approach to how you navigate text, and develop strategies for deep reading. During this second workshop, you will join Victoria Sheldon and Benjamin Pottruff, Learning Strategists from Academic Success, to discuss how to utilize skimming and skipping strategically and mindfully in your reading practice.  Topics covered during this session will include:

  • Exploring the difference between focused attention and open monitoring mindfulness techniques
  • Recognizing and gaining awareness of different reasons for skipping and skimming
  • Identifying what to strategically skip and skim, while maintaining your learning
  • Variants of common reading strategies in order to support choices around skimming and skipping

During this third workshop, you will join Victoria Sheldon and Benjamin Pottruff, Learning Strategist from Academic Success, to discuss how to read and consume academic content in a digital world. Topics covered during this session will include:

  • Consider mindfulness as a response to disembodied learning
  • Understand how reading in a digital age has fragmented our information intake to screen reading, watching videos, and listening to podcasts
